With lessons and series in both classical and skate-skiing styles, Weston Ski Track offers a lesson plan that fits your cross-country skiing interests and abilities. All lessons cover the basics of travelling over flat ground, climbing and descending hills, and stopping efficiently, though the lesson series cover these topics and more in greater depth. Select from the list below or scroll down to examine them all.
Classical cross-country skiing, also known as traditional or touring skiing, is a centuries-old technique where the skis remain parallel and pointed straight ahead. The underside of the skis has a grippy section in the middle
(either a base pattern or a kickwax) to allow the skis to produce forward momentum. This style is the easiest for a beginner to learn and allows travel in many conditions. Trails groomed for classical skiing have the familiar two-parallel-tracks pattern. Classical skiing can also be used to break trail through ungroomed snow, and to go up and down moderate hills.
Beginner Lesson

Beginner Classical Series
Our series of two 2-hour introductory lessons is the most effective way to learn cross-country skiing. Each week, as new skills are added, feedback from your instructor strengthens what you have learned. Through this series of lessons, combined with the benefit of unlimited practice time for three full weeks, you will emerge a more confident and capable skier. If you want a smooth graceful stride, efficient arm and leg action, proper pole use, and the ability to handle hills in control, this series is for you.
The
class schedule lists the starting time for the first class. This course meets for two sessions at the same time and day of the week (for example, two consecutive Mondays at 6:30pm).

Intermediate/Advanced Classical Skiing: The Ultimate Stride!
Designed for the intermediate to advanced skier looking to take their classical skiing to the next level, the Ultimate Stride two-lesson series will focus on helping students develop a long, smooth, and fluid classical stride.
The class will review core movements (stopping, turning, uphills and downhills, changing tracks, etc.), and further develop fundamental skills of balance, weight shift, and efficient movement. We'll refine diagonal stride with advanced drills, develop double pole with a kick, and discuss race strategies. We'll also demonstrate recent advances in ski and wax technology that can make classical skiing simpler, faster, and more fun. Let us help you move from shuffling to flying over the snow.
The course offers a high instructor-to-student ratio for individual feedback. Students should have completed the Beginner's Classical Series or have at least two years of ski experience.
The series meets for two 2-hour sessions at the same time and day of the week (for example, two consecutive Mondays at 6:30pm).
Two-Lesson Series: $80 includes four hours of instruction; trail pass and rentals are additional.
Intermediate/Advanced Classical-Skiing Lessons: Race Faster — Classic!
For those interested in technical classical skiing for racing, we offer our Race Faster classic series. We'll refine your diagonal stride, double-pole, and kick/double-pole techniques, introduce drills you can work on yourself to improve your skiing, and discuss racing strategy.
Students should feel comfortable using the diagonal stride and have spent significant time classical skiing. Beginners and those who have never had formal classical skiing instruction should consider our Beginner Classical Series or a private lesson.
The course meets for two 2-hour sessions scheduled on the same day and time for two consecutive weeks (e.g. two Wednesdays in a row). The date and time listed below is the starting time for the first class.
$80 includes four hours of instruction; trail pass and rentals are additional.
Skate-Skiing Lessons
Skate-skiing, also known as freestyle, is a newer, faster technique where the skis (mostly) remain in a V-shape. The skis are waxed with a glide wax over their entire length, so the skis are faster than classical skis. Force is
generated by pushing the edges of the ski against the snow, which is a more powerful motion than classical skiing and is therefore much faster.
Skate-skiing requires the ability to balance on one ski, and is therefore easier for those who are athletic and/or have previous skiing experience. Trails groomed for skate-skiing are smooth and wide, and in most cases skate-skiing is only done on groomed trails.
